[05] — The dossier · long-form
A documentary biography of the German in-game leader who moved from the BIG academy system to the calling role in M80, built from HLTV profile data, HLTV news records and published interviews.
Elias Stein competes under the name s1n. He is listed as 24 years old, representing Germany, and at the time of the profile record he is the in-game leader of M80, the American organisation that has employed him since March 2024. His career prize money is recorded at $165,600, his three-month Rating 3.0 at 0.96, and his Major record at four appearances: Legends at IEM Rio 2022 with BIG, and Stage 2 at Austin 2025, Budapest 2025 and Cologne 2026 with M80. He has no HLTV Top 20 placements, no Major titles and no Major MVP awards. His trophy section is empty.
The attribute block explains why a player with those headline numbers has remained employed at the top of two regional scenes for six years. On the 0 to 100 scale he is recorded at Utility 88, Trading 53, Clutching 51, Entrying 48, Firepower 24, Opening 23, Sniping 0. Utility at 88 is the highest single attribute among the M80 profiles in this set and among the highest for any caller in the German scene. Firepower at 24 and Opening at 23 are the lowest among the same group. Read together they describe a specific division of labour: a player who throws the grenades, sets the timings and accepts the lowest duel burden in the server so that riflers and AWPers can take the duels they are paid to win.
His FACEIT history documents the volume behind that specialisation. Across 4,965 recorded matches he holds a 64.0 percent win rate, a 2.49 average KDR and a 55.0 percent headshot percentage, with a longest winning streak of 16. The historic placements run across FPL CS:GO Challenger Europe, FPL CS:GO Europe and FPL CS2 Europe, with no North American seasons listed — a European queue career that predates his move to an American organisation. The note on his active FPL season reads "s1n has no stats for the active FPL season, check back later", consistent with a caller whose practice time is consumed by demo review,ISO-date opponent preparation and team server blocks rather than matchmaking.
Stein belongs to the generation of German players formed after the 2018 Berlin Major cycle, when BIG established a permanent academy as a feeder for the main roster. His biography is therefore inseparable from that institutional history: from open German teams in 2020, through NLG in 2021, into BIG Academy in 2022, into the main BIG roster for a Major, back to the academy, and then out of the German system entirely to North America. The chapters that follow trace that movement and what it required of his game.
The team history opens with three short tenures that map the bottom of the German and European open circuit. Epikk from May 2020 to July 2020, Berzerk from July 2020 to August 2020, and NLG from January 2021 to January 2022. The Epikk and Berzerk spells each lasted approximately two months in the summer of 2020, during the online-only COVID calendar when ESEA Advanced, FACEIT cups and regional qualifiers constituted the entire competitive schedule. NLG from January 2021 to January 2022 was the first full-year tenure, a twelve-month period in which the roster competed in ESEA Premier, ESL Meisterschaft and open qualifiers for IEM and BLAST events.
No trophies are listed against any of the three periods. The news index contains two items from the wider context of those years: "Red Bull Flick 2v2 tournament returns with $58,700 event in Helsinki" from April 2021, and "BIG Academy undergo core changes ahead of WePlay League kick-off" from January 2022. The second headline is the relevant one. In January 2022 BIG Academy remade its roster ahead of the WePlay Academy League season, and Stein was among the players brought in. The move from NLG — a functional ESEA Premier team with no academy funding — to BIG Academy — a salaried developmental roster with a direct promotion path to a top-20 team — was the first selection event of his career.
The attributes that later defined him were already forming in this period. A caller in the open circuit cannot rely on superior firepower, because the open circuit contains no inferior opposition against whom to farm rating. He must win through grenade usage, mid-round adjustments and the willingness to take support positions on both sides of the map. The Utility 88 that appears in his mature profile is not a statistical accident of his M80 years; it is the residue of two years in which his teams could not afford a dedicated support player and the calling fell to whoever could manage the grenade book alongside the strat book.
The profile lists BIG Academy from January 2022 to September 2022, then BIG from September 2022 to November 2022, then BIG Academy again from November 2022 to June 2023. The middle period — two months on the main roster — contains his first Major.
The surrounding news index reconstructs the mechanism. On 29 September 2022 the desk reported "faveN to miss RMR through illness", removing a starter from BIG's Rio RMR campaign. On 10 October 2022 Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz, the long-standing BIG in-game leader, gave the interview headlined "tabseN: 's1n is far better than we all expected'", a public assessment that the academy caller had exceeded the main team's expectations in practice. On 20 October 2022 the desk reported "BIG to field s1n for IEM Rio Major and BLAST Showdown", confirming that Stein would replace the absent starter for the Major cycle.
His own interview followed on 1 November 2022 under the headline "s1n: 'People may feel a bit pressured because they want to perform well, but for me pressure is a privilege'". The quotation, given days before his Major debut, is the earliest extended statement in his index and it establishes the public register he has maintained since: pressure described as opportunity rather than burden, team performance centred over individual output. On 2 November the desk reported "BIG move past 9z to qualify for Legends Stage", confirming that the roster with the academy stand-in had navigated the Challengers stage into Legends. The achievements table records the outcome as Legends at IEM Rio Major 2022 with BIG, with a link to his event statistics page.
The subsequent results define both the achievement and its limit. On 5 November: "Cloud9 pull off comeback against FaZe; BIG take down Sprout". On 8 November: "fnatic advance to IEM Rio Major playoffs after beating BIG". On 9 November: "NAVI send BIG packing to clinch penultimate playoff spot at IEM Rio". The run ended before the playoffs, but the fact of Legends with a 20-year-old academy caller in the lineup was sufficient for the organisation to retain him in the system. On 19 November the desk carried "Krimbo: 'We grew a lot as a team at the Major'", a teammate's retrospective that placed the Rio campaign as developmental rather than terminal.
The September 2022 feature "We paired current and former academy players with their top tier doppelgängers" and the October preview "IEM Rio Major profile: BIG" both listed Stein among the academy products to watch, confirming that his promotion was understood at the time as part of a broader academy-to-tier-one pipeline rather than as an isolated stand-in arrangement.
The return to BIG Academy from November 2022 to June 2023 coincided with the most turbulent period in BIG's modern history. On 5 December 2022 the desk reported "IHC and BIG Academy qualify for IESF World Championship main event". In June 2023 the main team was rebuilt. On 21 June 2023 the desk reported "BIG sign mantuu; promote s1n, prosus in major roster overhaul" and, in the live rostermania blog, "BIG overhaul roster with new trio". On 2 July: "BIG: 'We will call in English'", confirming the switch to English-language calling that accompanied the internationalised roster. On 4 July: "BIG part ways with tiziaN".
Stein's promotion in that overhaul placed him alongside mantuu and prosus in a roster that was expected to stabilise BIG after the Rio cycle. The results that followed were mixed. On 17 July 2023: "BIG reverse-sweep Astralis at Fall Groups". On 22 July: "BIG cast OG down to BLAST Fall Showdown". On 11 September: "s1n 1vs3 gives lifeline to BIG", a highlight notation from the ESL Pro League Group B live blog. On 6 October: "BIG knock ENCE out of BLAST Fall Final contention". On 30 October: "BIG annihilate FURIA in Thunderpick opener". On 1 November: "BIG go 8-0 in matchups vs. FalleN to make Thunderpick playoffs". On 8 December: "BIG take CCT Online Finals 5 title in undefeated campaign".
The CCT Online Finals 5 title in December 2023 is the only team trophy of the period, and it arrived in an online CCT final rather than at a Big Event. By January 2024 the roster was changing again. On 28 January 2024: "Astralis inch past BIG to claim Spring Final berth". On 13 February: "BIG return to German lineup with JDC and syrsoN signings". The return to a German lineup ended the English-calling experiment and, with it, Stein's place in the main five. The profile lists a further period on BIG with no dates, reflecting substitute or bench status, before the March 2024 move.
On 26 March 2024 the desk reported "Media: M80 target s1n as new IGL" and, on the same day, "M80 confirm s1n signing". The two headlines, twelve hours apart, mark the transfer from the German system to the North American project. For M80, the signing filled the calling vacancy in a roster that already contained Swisher, malbsMd, reck and slaxz-. For Stein, it meant leaving a scene in which he had spent four years for a scene in which he had never played, and switching his working language back to English on a permanent basis.
The first twelve months in M80 define his mature style. On 26 April 2024: "G2 to face Falcons in elimination match after M80 upset", recording an early group-stage victory over a tier-one opponent. On 27 April: "BetBoom edge past M80 to reach EPL S19 playoffs". On 29 April: "G2 make EPL playoffs after thriller revenge series against M80". The three results in four days at ESL Pro League Season 19 show a team competitive in every series but unable to close the qualification matches — the pattern that would recur at the Majors.
On 30 May 2024: "Swisher: '[We're] just going to erase everything that happened here'", a teammate interview after a disappointing event that framed the spring as a reset rather than a foundation. On 8 June: "M80, RED Canids, ATOX qualify for ESL Pro League Season 20". On 19 June: "M80 confirm malbsMd departure ahead of expected G2 move". On 10 July: "M80 sign Lake". The summer reshuffle replaced a star rifler with a developmental entry player and left the calling structure — s1n plus coach dephh — as the continuity element.
The autumn validated that continuity. The EPL Season 20 run to the quarter-finals, documented in the Lake biography through the fnatic and Imperial victories, was called by Stein. The RMR cycle that followed — "M80 send BESTIA packing from Americas RMR" on 15 November, "FalleN secures 16th Major appearance as FURIA outclass M80" on the same day — left M80 short of Shanghai, and his interview on 15 November under the headline "s1n: 'There are always new tournaments; that's the beauty of CS'" addressed that elimination directly. The quotation presents the dense calendar as consolation: another tournament, another qualification path, another opportunity to correct the RMR defeats.
The winter and spring of 2025 extended the pattern. On 6 January 2025: "M80 turn to k1to as reck is sidelined with broken leg". On 22 March: "M80 oust FURIA from BLAST Open". On 12 May: "G2 oust M80 from PGL Astana". On 30 May 2025 the desk listed the M80 core among the Austin Major rookies, though Stein himself was not a rookie by virtue of Rio. The team qualified for Austin Stage 2, Budapest Stage 2 and, in April 2026, for Cologne Stage 1 through the DraculaN Season 6 trophy reported as "M80 secure Major berth with DraculaN S6 trophy" on 3 April 2026.
The Major record with M80 mirrors that of his teammates: three Stage 2 exits. The achievements table lists Austin 2025 Stage 2, Budapest 2025 Stage 2 and Cologne 2026 Stage 2, each with a link to his event statistics. The news index adds the surrounding results. For Budapest: "M80 obliterate NRG to reach Stage 2" on 26 November 2025, "Astralis facing early elimination after M80 loss" on 30 November, "Passion UA secure Stage 3 berth over M80" on 2 December. For Cologne: "M80 win NA derby over NRG to make Stage 2" on 5 June 2026, "Legacy send M80 packing in Major Stage 2" on 9 June. The shape is consistent: qualification through North American opponents and best-of-ones against Europeans, elimination in the Swiss deciders.
Two 2026 results complicate that flat description. On 26 August 2026 the desk reported "M80 stun NAVI at BLAST Open", and on 29 August Stein gave the interview headlined "s1n: 'Honestly I'm really proud of the team'". The pairing of upset and interview is the most positive sequence in his M80 index: a best-of-three victory over Natus Vincere, one of the organisations that had repeatedly eliminated M80 in RMR and EPL deciders, followed by the caller publicly expressing pride rather than relief. On 3 June 2026, earlier in the same summer, he had given the broader interview headlined "s1n: 'We want to give German people a team to cheer for, this is the ultimate goal'", a statement that acknowledged his unusual position — a German caller leading an American organisation — and framed it as a bridge between scenes rather than as an exile from his own.
The rating context for these campaigns is his 0.96 three-month figure. Among in-game leaders at Majors, ratings below 1.00 are standard; the calling burden — early-round grenade deployment, late-round information gathering, sacrifice positions on both bombsites — suppresses personal output by design. His Utility 88 and Trading 53 show where the sacrificed output goes: into flashes, smokes and molotovs that enable Lake's entries and slaxz-'s AWP posts, and into second-man trades that convert those opening attempts into round wins. The Clutching 51 and Entrying 48 indicate a player who can survive isolated late-rounds but is not assigned to seek them.
Stein's career contains two language transitions. The first was the July 2023 switch to English calling in BIG, reported as "BIG: 'We will call in English'", which required a German-majority roster to conduct defaults, mid-rounds and timeouts in a second language. The second was the March 2024 move to M80, an American organisation in which English was the native language of most teammates but in which he remained the only German. His June 2026 remark about giving German people a team to cheer for addresses that duality: he calls in English for an American organisation while remaining a reference point for German viewers who followed his academy career.
Teammate testimony on his calling is consistent. tabseN's October 2022 assessment — "far better than we all expected" — came from the most experienced German caller of the previous decade and concerned Stein's readiness for tier-one mid-rounds at short notice. Krimbo's November 2022 remark about growing as a team at the Major concerned the same Rio group. The M80 record adds a different kind of evidence: retention. Through the malbsMd departure, the Lake signing, the reck injury and k1to stand-in, the HexT replacement of reck in July 2025 reported as "HexT replaces reck on M80", the December 2025 departure of HexT and signing of JBa, and the full Major cycle from Austin to Cologne, Stein remained the caller. Organisations do not retain in-game leaders through four roster disruptions unless the calling system is judged functional independently of results.
His public speech supports that judgement. The three headline quotations — pressure as privilege in November 2022, the beauty of always having another tournament in November 2024, pride in the team after stunning NAVI in August 2026 — share a register: low affect, collective framing, forward orientation. There are no complaints about roles, no disputes about roster decisions, no statistical defences of his 0.96 rating in the index. The absence is consistent with the Utility 88 profile: a player whose contribution is measured in grenade timings and round structures that do not appear on the scoreboard.
The aggregate record can be stated concisely. At 24, Elias Stein has earned $165,600 in recorded prize money, attended four Majors to Legends once and Stage 2 three times, called two organisations in two languages, and maintained a three-month rating of 0.96 with the highest utility attribute in his team's profile set. He has won one online CCT final with BIG in December 2023 and no Big Event trophies. His sticker record shows 19 entries across Rio 2022, Austin 2025, Budapest 2025 and Cologne 2026. His FACEIT history shows 4,965 matches at 64 percent wins.
The comparative framing is institutional. Among German callers who entered the scene through the academy system after 2020, Stein is one of a small number to have called at a Major before the age of 21 and then to have sustained a starting calling role into a second organisation and a second regional scene. The Rio Legends appearance with BIG remains his deepest Major run; the three Stage 2 exits with M80 remain his ceiling in North America. The gap between those results and a playoff appearance is the outstanding item, and it is a team item rather than an individual one: no caller with Firepower 24 and Opening 23 advances to a Major playoff without his riflers and AWPer converting the advantages his utility creates.
Whether that conversion arrives will depend on the stability of the five around him. The JBa signing of December 2025, the BLAST Open upset of NAVI in August 2026, and the Cologne Stage 2 qualification over NRG in June 2026 suggest a roster whose ceiling is rising, even if its Swiss deciders continue to end in elimination. At 24, with six years of team experience and more than two years calling the same core in English, the horizon is not developmental. It is the specific best-of-three — against Imperial, Passion UA, Legacy or their successors — that has ended his last three Majors, and whether the system he calls can win it.
