[05] — The dossier · long-form
A documentary biography of the Swedish rifler who spent two seasons as a tier-two title-winner, one as a reluctant AWPer, and arrived at Luminosity at 21 years old with the trade profile of a player finally allowed back to his real job, built from HLTV profile data, HLTV news records and published interviews.
Simon Boije is 21 years old at the time of his profile record, Swedish, and his recorded competitive history opens in April 2022 with Bitfix, a stint that ran to January of the following year. He was seventeen. The next entry, Metizport, from January to August 2023, gave him his first extended run inside an organisation competing on the European circuit, and by August 2023 he had moved to Sangal, where he would stay for two and a half years.
Beneath the team record sits one of the larger public matchmaking ledgers in the current player pool: 7,314 FACEIT matches at a 55.0% win rate, a 1.32 average KDR and a 59.0% headshot percentage, with a longest winning streak of 20. The FPL history is thinner than the match count would suggest and more revealing for it. His best documented ladder season is FPL CS2 Europe season 15 — thirteen matches, ten wins, a 77% win rate, a fifth-place finish at 1,570 points. The seasons around it are sparse: single appearances, a handful of games, positions from 12th to 59th, one twentieth-place finish on 992 points in season 16, and a lone recorded match in FPL CSGO Challenger Europe. The pattern describes a player who reached the invitation ladder, won on it when he played, and did not live on it — a profile consistent with a career spent in team environments rather than in the public grind that produces FPL regulars.
What the record establishes about his development is its ordinariness by design. There is no academy programme in it, no academy league table, no scouting citation. Boije's route ran through a small Swedish entry point, a European organisation, and then Sangal — the kind of path most of the European tier two actually takes, and one that rarely gets documented until the moment a bigger org comes asking. The matchmaking volume, for its part, is not decorative: a 59% headshot percentage across 7,314 matches describes a first-shot-oriented mechanical base, the raw material of the trade rifler his later attribute profile would formalise.
The Sangal Boije joined in August 2023 was a project in motion. Over the following months the roster was rebuilt around him: xfl0ud and Ganginho were signed in November 2023, stikle- departed in February 2024, Jumpy was named coach at the end of that month, jottAAA arrived in March, and SaMey signed permanently in May after a stand-in spell. The team that emerged was a Swedish-Turkish-Danish blend competing in the CCT and regional European circuit, and in the spring and summer of 2024 it won.
The titles are in the record. In May 2024, Sangal beat Zero Tenacity to take the RES title — HLTV's headline was "Sangal steal RES title from Zero Tenacity," and the word steal was doing real work in a final Boije's team had to close out. In August 2024, Sangal secured "consecutive titles" by winning CCT Season 2 Europe Series 7, the confirmation that the spring run had not been a fluke. For a 19- and 20-year-old rifler, these were the first trophies of a professional life, and they arrived in the exact tier — European online series, CCT brackets, regional finals — where the modern circuit's lower half manufactures its candidates.
The ceiling test came in November 2024. Sangal entered the Europe RMR for the Perfect World Shanghai Major as a team HLTV profiled under the headline "Sangal: From outsiders to Shanghai Major hopefuls" — a franchise piece that treated the roster as the event's most improbable qualifying candidate. The hope lasted until the RMR itself: on 19 November, ECLOT sent Sangal crashing out of the European RMR, ending the Major cycle in the room where it mattered. SaMey's departure followed on 19 December, and by the new year the roster was being dismantled for parts. Calyx and danistzz headlined a new Sangal roster announced at the end of January 2025 — without Boije.
The organisation that came asking was HEROIC, and it came for a core rather than a player. On 2 January 2025, HLTV reported HEROIC closing in on a trio from Sangal; on 7 January, reports placed SunPayus and nilo in the same build; and on 10 January the organisation revealed its new roster — Boije among the ex-Sangal contingent, with the Spanish AWPer SunPayus and the Swedish nilo completing the group. The context was a franchise in free fall: days earlier, Falcons had completed a lineup with a triple signing from the old HEROIC, gutting the organisation's previous project. The rebuild that Boije joined was HEROIC starting over, with a core of players who had just won two titles together in the tier below.
The first months established the pattern of his HEROIC career: real results interrupted by constant reconstruction. In February, HEROIC smashed Astralis to claim the final IEM Dallas spot, and in April HEROIC and OG secured their Austin Major Stage 1 berths. At IEM Dallas in May, the team ended s1mple's FaZe debut in the group stage — a result that travelled far beyond its group-stage weight, given whose debut it ended. The spring also produced the churn: Boije's first Major was approaching while the team around him was being assessed, adjusted and, in places, replaced.
The Dallas week itself compressed the era's logistics into one schedule. HEROIC arrived in Texas on the back of a PGL Astana trip — HLTV's headline for the opening day read "Astana jet-setters falter in Dallas openers," a description of the intercontinental round-trip several rosters were making between the Kazakh event and the Texan one — and still found the form to send s1mple's FaZe home early. For a 20-year-old in his first months at a tier-one organisation, the education was administrative as much as tactical: qualifying paths, visa windows, roster locks, and the arithmetic of VRS points that determined which events a team of HEROIC's ranking could even enter.
BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 was Boije's first Valve Major, and HLTV's pre-event feature "Meet the BLAST.tv Austin Major rookies" placed him in the cohort making its Major debut in Texas. The tournament format delivered the standard rookie education in fast forward. HEROIC opened Stage 2 against FaZe Clan in a fixture HLTV billed as a grudge match — a rivalry with roots in the previous cycle — and FaZe "made quick work" of them in the opening round. Two days later, on 9 June, HEROIC eliminated TYLOO to reach round five of Stage 2, keeping their tournament alive into its decisive rounds.
The record's placement row for the event reads Stage 2 — the elimination stage, round five, no Legends berth. For a first Major it was a defensible return, and it came attached to a team whose composition was already shifting underneath him: within days of the Major's end, xfl0ud was benched, SunPayus and coach sAw were given their farewells on 18 June, and TOBIZ was hired as coach on 28 June. gr1ks was signed on 29 June, nilo returned to complete the roster on 30 June. Boije had played his first Major in a lineup that would not survive the month.
The summer of 2025 tested the rebuilt team and found it wanting. Spirit fought past HEROIC in zweih's debut for the Russian organisation in late July. In August, HEROIC benched gr1ks and loaned Alkaren from Spirit, and were then replaced at BLAST Open London by fnatic — the kind of administrative exile that signals a ranking in retreat.
October brought the anomaly. At CS Asia Championships in Shanghai, HEROIC arrived with a stand-in — Olek "hades" Miskiewicz, brought in for the visa-blocked Alkaren, with no practice time — and a run of form poor enough that expectations had to be manufactured from nothing. They beat B8 16-12 in a best-of-one, then swept FUT 2-0 to reach the playoffs at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. For the team, and for Boije personally, it was a first arena event. "I mean, awesome. Even with a stand-in, it just feels awesome. It's like the first big event playoff for us as a team, and for me personally, so it means a lot, so I'm super happy," he told HLTV. His framing of the team's state was disarmingly honest: "We were coming in with no expectations, but high hopes." Asked how far the run could go: "Who knows? Maybe it's a Cinderella story." And on the method behind the results: "At the start of the season we made a lot of roster changes, we changed coach, analyst, a lot like this. It's hard to instantly get everyone on the same page... Now we're trying to wing it and play as good as possible."
The interview also captured the scouting memory of a 20-year-old veteran of the minor leagues: on FUT, whose players he had faced "when they were under NAVI Junior in Sangal, one year ago. And we knew they are a bit crazy, doing these crazy plays. We were just trying to be as aware as possible, and instead of letting them do what they want, try to face them and fight fire with fire." HEROIC sat 21st in the world ranking at the time. The CAC run ended in the playoffs, and the autumn's remaining results — a playoff loss to GamerLegion at PGL Masters Bucharest, at the hands of a GamerLegion side winning its first playoff match of 2025, followed by a defeat to The MongolZ on Controlez, a map in its competitive debut that week — pulled the season back toward its median. The bookkeeping of the stretch also mattered: HEROIC's ranking, its VRS position, and the stand-in economics of the hades week were all entries in a ledger that would decide the following January's roster moves.
On 7 January 2026, HEROIC benched Boije and signed Tim "susp" Ångström the same day. The benching lasted roughly a week. When Alkaren — the Kazakh loanee who had displaced him — was sidelined by visa issues, HEROIC recalled Boije and gave him the AWP. He had never been a sniper. The organisation's own farewell statement, eight months later, would name the arrangement exactly: he had "completely switch[ed] roles when we needed help in a difficult situation."
The season that followed was played out of position, in public, with the team's coaching staff openly counting the days. TOBIZ told HLTV in February: "Hopefully, Alkaren will return, but we just have to get the best out of the situation." The results ran the full width of the tier-two experience. In January, an "AWPer-less HEROIC" — the phrase was HLTV's, a description of a roster whose nominal AWPer was not an AWPer — beat paiN to make the BLAST Bounty Finals, where FURIA, with molodoy starring, eliminated them. At IEM Kraków, PARIVISION beat HEROIC in the opener and GamerLegion knocked them out days later. At PGL Cluj-Napoca, G2 eliminated them in February. In March came the season's best stretch: HEROIC dumped Passion UA out of ESL Pro League Season 23 and then stunned PARIVISION to reach the event's Stage 2. By April, TOBIZ was describing the preceding month as "a state of pure pressure," and a BCG Masters exit to Tricked drew his bluntest public assessment: "Super disappointing, embarrassing." At PGL Astana in May, HEROIC bowed out to magic.
"Hopefully, Alkaren will return, but we just have to get the best out of the situation."
Through all of it, Boije's individual numbers held the line a role-switch allows. HLTV's snapshot at the June Major read 0.99 across 60 maps; the later signing report would credit his interim-sniper spell with a 1.00 average rating, the Cologne Major Stage 1 qualification, and title victories at DraculaN Season 5 and Stake Ranked Episode 3 — two trophies won, by the organisation's own later accounting, with a rifler holding the AWP.
The IEM Cologne Major 2026 opened with two close best-of-one losses — Lynn Vision, then Sharks — that dropped HEROIC to the 0-2 pool on day one. A win over Gaimin Gladiators kept the tournament alive and set the requirement: two straight wins for Stage 2. Boije's interview after the Gaimin Gladiators match contained the sentence the run would be remembered by: "I have no doubt in my teammates, I have no doubt in the team, and the coaching staff behind us, that we will make it to Stage 2."
"I have no doubt in my teammates, I have no doubt in the team, and the coaching staff behind us, that we will make it to Stage 2."
The context around the confidence was complicated. The last win before the Major had come at PGL Astana, against Aurora, in a first game; after it, the team had gone 1-3 in Astana and 0-2 at Stake Ranked. "It's been hard, we've been trying to regroup as a team," he said, "talk about the losses and what we can do moving forward." He had also been sick in the build-up. And on the weapon itself, he gave the most complete public account of what the 2026 experiment had cost and taught: "With the weapon, of course I feel comfortable. It's more like the different scenarios. When I was a rifler, I was playing the same scenarios over and over again, but now when I have a new position and especially the new scenarios, it's getting a bit uncomfortable. But day by day I'm playing more, so it's more comfortable day by day." The role, he conceded, had its appeal: "AWPing is super fun and it's an important role. You're the playmaker, compared to being a support-anchor before. Now I can choose my own destiny, choose my own fate, do the peeks I want, do the calls I want, so it's definitely more suitable role-wise I think. But who knows what the future will hold, you know?"
The future held the elimination. Liquid knocked HEROIC out of the Major in Stage 1 on 5 June, ending the tournament in the round his Stage 2 confidence had been staked on. The June snapshot left him at 0.99 across 60 maps; by the July accounting, after the season's remaining events, his three-month figure read 0.89 across 29 — the statistical cost of a year spent in borrowed positions.
Within a month he was gone. On 7 July 2026, HEROIC announced that Boije had stepped down from the active roster, part of an off-season rebuild that also benched xfl0ud and replaced coach TOBIZ with doto, with Gentle Mates' AWPer Antonio "MartinezSa" Martinez reported as the replacement target — the specialist the experiment had postponed hiring for a season. The organisation's farewell statement did the summarising its results could not: "We are grateful for the selflessness you showed in the previous season, completely switching roles when we needed help in a difficult situation." The statement's closing line coined the nickname that followed him out of the building — the "hobby AWPer" who "took down Major winners and MVPs."
"We are grateful for the selflessness you showed in the previous season, completely switching roles when we needed help in a difficult situation."
His own accounting was shorter and pointed at the future rather than the past. In a post announcing the move, Boije wrote: "After 2 rough seasons, it's finally time to go and start the real rifle grind." Two weeks later, HLTV's short-news report placed him standing in for EYEBALLERS at BLAST Bounty — a between-contracts appearance, the kind of stopgap work the tier-two circuit provides its free agents.
Luminosity signed him on 25 August 2026, from HEROIC, to replace Aurimas "Bymas" Pipiras, benched a day earlier after the ex-Monte core with lux had debuted under the Luminosity banner with consecutive last-place finishes at XSE Pro League Guangzhou and the Esports World Cup. The organisation he joined was the reacquired 2016 Major-winning brand — founder Steve Maida's CAD 300,000 buyback — carrying Monte's VRS points, a Brazilian in-game leader, a Bulgarian anchor, a French rifler, a British rifler, and now a 21-year-old Swede, with kakafu coaching. Five nationalities, one coach, and a stated collective plan: the tier-two European LAN circuit for points, a climb back toward the Major qualification zone, and wins wherever they could be taken. The fit was pitched as much by role as by talent: Luminosity needed a rifler, and Boije needed to stop AWPing. His debut was scheduled for Roman Imperium Cup VIII in mid-September.
The first month returned two runner-up finishes. At Roman Imperium Cup VIII, Luminosity lost both of their series against M80 — 2-1, then 0-2 in the deciding match on 14 September. At Logitech G Play Connect 2026, the team beat Metizport 13-9, M80 13-4 and Ninjas in Pyjamas 13-11 through the group stage, dispatched BBL and B8 2-0 in the playoffs, and lost the final to 3DMAX 2-3 on 24 September after a group stage in which they had also fallen to GamerLegion and B8 in best-of-ones. A Stake Ranked Episode 4 match against B8 on 1 October stands as the record's most recent entry.
The objectives for the remainder of the project had been stated by its captain before Boije arrived, and they were correspondingly modest for a roster rebuilding from five straight losses: win matches, secure invites, and treat a Major spot as reachable through the VRS ladder rather than guaranteed by pedigree. lux's Esports World Cup interview had framed the method — "whatever tournaments come up, whatever opportunities arise, we'll be there to seize them" — and the two September runner-up finishes were the first entries in exactly that ledger. For Boije, the arithmetic attached to his own column was simpler and more personal: VRS points accrued in a rifle role, a rating curve that had moved from 0.89 in July to 1.14 by autumn, and a second chance at the position he had played for 7,314 matches before anyone asked him to hold something else.
The attribute profile HLTV assigns him completes the story his 2026 told. Firepower 87, Entrying 75, Trading 81, Opening 13, Clutching 52, Sniping 0, Utility 36. The numbers describe a trade rifler: elite-adjacent firepower and trading scores, a meaningful entry component, and an Opening score of 13 — one of the lowest in the game's data — meaning he almost never takes the first duel. He is built to hit what someone else opens, to win the second contact, to convert space other players create. The Sniping score of 0 is the statistical receipt for the 2026 experiment: whatever the interim-sniper spell produced in trophies, the underlying profile never carried AWP usage, and the "real rifle grind" he announced in August was a return to the role the attributes describe. His most recent three-month rating stands at 1.14 across the profile record — the best sustained figure of his documented career, and the number he carried into Luminosity.
The career ledger at the time of writing: $135,592 in prize money; five organisations; two Valve Majors — Austin 2025 at Stage 2, Cologne 2026 at Stage 1, each with its sticker set; two Sangal-era titles, two HEROIC-era titles won as a stand-in sniper, and two Luminosity runner-up finishes inside his first month. No Top 20 finish, no MVP medal, no playoff bracket at a Major. Against that: a first arena at 20, a farewell statement that called his 2026 selfless, and a signing-time snapshot of 1.12 across 29 maps that rose to 1.14 by the profile record — numbers suggesting the rifle grind has somewhere to go. The organisation's own framing of his signing, delivered without sentiment, was the most economical summary available: after two rough seasons, the real grind was starting. The record's most recent documented ambition remains his own, from the Cologne interview, asked about what the future held: "But who knows what the future will hold, you know?"
