[05] — The dossier · long-form
A documentary biography of the Brazilian in-game leader who carried four different organisations to international competition before being handed the keys to Luminosity's CS2 revival, built from HLTV profile data, HLTV news records and published interviews.
Lucas Meneghini is 24 years old at the time of his profile record, Brazilian, and carries the organisational biography of a player who grew up inside a regional scene that produces more teams than it can sustain. His HLTV record opens with ex-Paquetá, a stint running from February to April 2021, when he would have been around eighteen. A Detona entry follows without published dates — the club's name appears in the earliest items of his profile's news feed, including a story from April 2021 in which Detona withdrew from a CBCS RMR over an alleged skin-changer ban — and then Cruzeiro Esports, from March to May 2022. After that comes Fluxo, the organisation that entered CS:GO in August 2022 with a lineup headlined by felps, vsm and Lucaozy; by July 2023 Fluxo were benching felps and WOOD7 and bidding Meneghini farewell, which is how his record marks the end of that chapter.
The offline record beneath those contracts is the matchmaking ledger on his FACEIT account, and it is unusually complete for a South American player. Across 2,807 recorded matches he holds a 65.0% win rate, a 1.36 average KDR and a 55.0% headshot percentage, with a longest winning streak of 21. More telling than the raw numbers is where he posted them. His FPL CS:GO South America history runs through more than a dozen seasons, and in two of them he finished first outright: season 11, with fifteen wins from nineteen matches at a 79% win rate, and season 15, with fifteen wins from twenty-four. The seasons around those titles read like a rider attached to a career in motion — third in season 18, fourth in season 19, then second in season 20, second in season 21 and second in season 22, a run of podium finishes that coincided with his move up to paiN and his first exposure to international competition. He also posted a 1st-place finish on the FPL Circuit South America CS2 ladder (season 38) and an appearance in FPL CS2 North America, a small but concrete trace of the period when Legacy were splitting their schedule between Brazil and the United States.
That geography matters. The South American circuit of the early 2020s was a closed loop of online qualifiers, regional cups and RMR gates, and the players who escaped it tended to do so by being noticed inside it. Meneghini's route ran through every tier of it — ex-Paquetá to Detona to Cruzeiro to Fluxo — before paiN, the country's most established contemporary organisation outside FURIA, came calling in August 2023.
paiN announced the signing of lux and kauez on 15 August 2023, with cass1n promoted from within, as part of an overhaul that had already seen hardzao and NEKIZ benched and zevy depart over the preceding weeks. What is now the most interesting detail about that announcement is what lux himself later revealed: he had offers to join teams as an in-game leader before paiN ever signed him, and turned them down. "I had some offers to be an IGL, but I ended up going to paiN as a playmaker," he told HLTV in April 2025. "I think that was the best decision for me at the time because it allowed me to gain a lot of experience and a way to see the game that I didn't have at the time."
"I think that was the best decision for me at the time because it allowed me to gain a lot of experience and a way to see the game that I didn't have at the time."
The experience he was signing up for came with a specific teacher. Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt was 28 and had been paiN's captain and best player for years, and lux would spend nearly two years playing under him. The relationship shows up in the record as a string of interviews rather than a single anecdote. In March 2024, around the Copenhagen RMR, lux called him "like a father; he shows great numbers and great calls." By the following spring, when he had his own team, he had crystallised the debt into a single formulation: biguzera's leadership style was one "where the IGL uses the crosshair to take space." "I learned a lot playing with biguzera," he said at the Austin Major media day in June 2025. "It was the first team I could play more aggressive and be a playmaker, and he was teaching me how to mix between being aggressive and being more... I was a little bit of a nerd, with protocols and stuff, and he taught me the more instinctive way to play. I'm mixing this, the way he calls too, because I learned a lot with him and with FalleN for the one week that I played with him, WOOD7 as well."
The FalleN reference is worth pausing on. Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, the most decorated captain in Brazilian history, overlapped with lux in a paiN lineup for roughly a week — a detail that recurs in lux's own accounting of his influences, listed in the same breath as a two-year mentorship because of what FalleN represents rather than what those seven days contained.
The 2024 season was the year lux established himself internationally, and it contained two Valve Majors. paiN qualified for PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen by beating ODDIK in early March, and lux attended his first Major as part of a 24-team field in which HLTV counted 34 rookies. paiN reached the Legends stage of the event, and lux's own summary of the campaign, given months later, was precise about how it ended: "In Copenhagen, we needed one more match." One more match for the playoff bracket, at his first Major, as part of a paiN side that also carried n1ssim on loan from Sharks.
Between the Majors, paiN collected the kind of results a young Brazilian roster is supposed to collect. They won GET Rio 2024 over Imperial in April. They qualified for IEM Rio in July. They appeared at IEM Cologne, IEM Rio and BetBoom Dacha Belgrade Season 2 across the year, and in May they added João "snow" Vinicius, a 17-year-old whose signing paiN had to prise away in a hijacked deal. By November, HLTV's snapshot had lux at a 1.16 rating across 79 maps with 0.73 kills per round — numbers that would make him, in HLTV's later accounting, paiN's joint-highest-rated player of 2024.
The Shanghai RMR in November 2024 became the defining stretch of the year. paiN opened with a 13-5 win over Nouns, lost 13-10 to Wildcard on day one, beat Imperial 13-5 even on their permaban Ancient, and then closed qualification by sweeping 9z 2-0 — including a 13-0 on the Argentinians' map pick. "I still can't believe this happened," lux said afterward. "I wouldn't even dream that I would qualify for the Major in a 13-0." The match had been prepared for with specific new content — "we created new stuff like the boost on the truck" — and the celebration belonged mostly to snow, whose tears after the win lux described in an interview that produced the phrase Brazilian fans still attach to the teenager: "He became the Brazilian donk." Lux had known snow since he was thirteen, watching him appear in the Brazilian community playing with streamers, and had advocated for the tryout that brought him in.
At the Perfect World Shanghai Major itself, paiN again reached the Legends stage, eliminated BIG from the event on 6 December, and were eliminated by FURIA a day later. Twelve months, two Majors, two Legends-stage appearances, zero playoff berths — and, in lux's telling, a clear idea of what was missing: "My goal, as I said, is to make the playoffs. In Copenhagen, we needed one more match, Cologne as well."
"My goal, as I said, is to make the playoffs. In Copenhagen, we needed one more match, Cologne as well."
The benching arrived within two weeks of that elimination. Reports on 18 December 2024 said paiN had moved lux out of the starting lineup. He declined to detail the reasons but framed the split without resentment. "It was the best for both parties," he told HLTV later. Given that he was the team's joint-highest-rated player of the year, the decision surprised more people outside the organisation than inside it.
Legacy confirmed the signing on 4 January 2025, after a fortnight of reports that lux and n1ssim would reunite, and with the confirmation came the news that reframed his entire career: he would take the in-game leader's chair. The move had been on his mind long enough to have an origin story. "I believe this was the right moment to make this transition," he said in April 2025.
The squad he inherited was talented and unfinished: Bruno "latto" Rebelatto and Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer, the Brazilian scene's long-promised duo, now 21 and 22; n1ssim, back from months withering on Sharks' bench, with six months of shared paiN history including the Copenhagen Major; and Guilherme "saadzin" Pacheco, the 20-year-old ex-W7M AWPer with two international LANs to his name. Olavo "chucky" Napoleão coached.
The first result was a loss. Legacy finished second to BESTIA at Frost and Fire South America Season 1, and lux laughed about it months later: "We lost the first tournament we played. Our honeymoon ended there." What followed was a semester of logistics as much as Counter-Strike. Legacy's home base was in the United States, splitting time between Brazil and Dallas, practising against and competing with North American opposition in ESL Challenger. Within three months the team had qualified for two international LANs — PGL Bucharest and IEM Dallas — without ever bootcamping in Europe. "Our schedule has been a bit crazy," lux admitted.
PGL Bucharest 2025 was the first real examination. Legacy beat Liquid 2-0 on Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek's debut for the North Americans — lux's read before the match, that a new caller meant limited reps, proved correct — and then exited 12th-14th despite taking both GamerLegion and Astralis to deciding maps in best-of-threes. At IEM Dallas the team finished last after losses to Vitality and 3DMAX, the latter leaving lux with a specific list of repairs: "On the map against 3DMAX, we had a lot of advantage to close the maps and we couldn't do it." The individual numbers held throughout: 1.20 across 64 maps in the spring snapshot, 0.77 kills per round from the captain's chair.
Then came the South American MRQ for the Austin Major, and the semester's cruellest moment. Legacy finished fifth, losing the fifth-place decider to BESTIA — the same team that had beaten them in their first tournament together. "It was a sad occasion," lux said on media day in Austin. "We didn't expect to be here because we lost." The Major, he said, "was something that broke the good semester stuff."
The lifeline came from BESTIA's visa problems. With two BESTIA players unable to travel, Legacy, as the next team in line, received the replacement invite, and the situation detonated across the Brazilian community — BESTIA's CEO publicly fought the replacement, and lux, asked whether Legacy could prove they deserved the spot, refused the premise: "It's too hard to say if we would deserve this spot because BESTIA deserved it and it was an unlucky situation." In a short news item that same week he added: "BESTIA have been fighting for a lot of years to go, and I know they deserve it."
"It's too hard to say if we would deserve this spot because BESTIA deserved it and it was an unlucky situation."
Legacy arrived in Texas already prepared — the team had been in the United States for IEM Dallas and "practiced a lot with the Dallas teams" in the run-up. They went to work in Stage 1 immediately, eliminating Imperial in a Brazilian derby on 5 June, then upsetting FaZe Clan on 9 June to book their Stage 3 place. lux's summary of the two stages was a joke with a point buried in it: "Stage 1 was too difficult, Stage 2 was easy."
The centrepiece of the run came on 12 June, when Legacy beat Vitality in a best-of-one — the result HLTV headlined as the end of Vitality's 30-match win streak. The match carried a piece of preparation folklore that lux recounted afterward with evident enjoyment. Vitality's captain had warned them off the map: "apEX told us in Dallas not to pick Inferno against them, and we were like, 'We will pick it again, man, be careful.'" Legacy picked it, and won.
The record's placement for lux at BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 reads Stage 3 — the Legends stage, the furthest any of his teams had gone at a Major, and the stated team goal he had set on media day: "their mindset is to be on the Legend Stage at least." The playoff bracket itself belonged to other teams, but the individual through-line held. "One of my goals here in Legacy as an IGL is to extract the maximum potential with dumau and latto," he had said before the event, "because they are young, some prodigies in Brazil... and saadzin and n1ssim as well."
The autumn of 2025 delivered the trophy. At CS Asia Championships in Shanghai, Legacy — ranked 25th in the world at the start of the event, against a 3DMAX side ranked 10th — fought through a bracket that had taken them away from home for three straight months, and beat the French team 3-2 in a five-map final: Nuke 13-6, Dust2 11-13, Inferno 5-13, Train 13-10, Ancient 13-6. It was the first LAN tournament victory in the organisation's history. lux finished the series at a 1.03 rating with 74.3 ADR, behind n1ssim's series-leading 1.25 and latto's 1.23, and gave the broadcast an interview that doubled as a summary of the year's cost: "This last month we've been through a lot as a team. We weren't being a team and being a champion right now is a feeling I couldn't even imagine... we were like three months away from home and getting this trophy was really worth it."
Two weeks later Legacy were in a final again. At PGL Masters Bucharest they dispatched paiN in a force-buy-fuelled Brazilian derby and reached a second consecutive final, where Aurora — the roster in the middle of its own rise — beat them for Aurora's first notable LAN trophy. The autumn therefore read: champions in Shanghai, runners-up in Bucharest, and a StarLadder Budapest Major campaign that ended in Stage 1. Legacy had entered with lux publicly steady — "We have the pressure, but we have the confidence," he said on 25 November — and exited on 28 November when Jame's PARIVISION took the final Stage 2 berth from them. From a Stage 3 Major in June to a Stage 1 exit five months later, with an international trophy in between: the volatility of a tier-two project operating at the edge of its resources.
The benching came on 3 February 2026, confirmed officially with a report that Legacy would sign arT — the most aggressive caller in Brazilian history — as his replacement. lux, at 23, had taken a team from a domestic runner-up finish to an international trophy in thirteen months, and lost his job in a January window. By April, reports placed him in negotiations with Luminosity.
The organisation he was negotiating with was, at that moment, a brand rather than a team. Luminosity had won the 2016 MLG Columbus Major with FalleN's core, released its Brazilian lineup in 2019, and been sold to Aquilini GameCo in a deal worth CAD 21.5 million. In January 2026 founder Steve Maida reacquired the brand from Vertiqal Studios for CAD 300,000 — roughly $212,000, a fraction of the 2019 sale — with a stated intention to return the org to Counter-Strike. "After retiring in 2021 and watching Luminosity it was always my goal to one day buy it back and put LG where it belongs — where it all started — Counter-Strike," Maida said.
On 1 July 2026 the return became official: lux plus four Monte players — Aurimas "Bymas" Pipiras, Aurélien "afro" Drapier, Oscar "AZUWU" Bell and Aleks "Rainwaker" Petrov — with the ex-Monte core carrying the organisation into the top 20 of the VRS on arrival. Only Jack "Gizmy" von Spreckelsen, Monte's British captain, declined to join, announcing on X that the core "told me that they were leaving to LG, and had also signed contracts before the Major." lux was drafted in as his replacement, the only non-Monte piece, and the team debuted at XSE Pro League the same day the announcement landed.
The start was severe. Luminosity went 0-3 at XSE Pro League Guangzhou and then exited the Esports World Cup in last place, beaten 13-3 by GamerLegion in a best-of-one on 12 August and 2-0 by Spirit the following day — five consecutive losses, a ten-place drop in the ranking to 34th, and an eighth-place finish at the event that had been billed as the project's stage. lux's post-elimination interview was unsentimental about the diagnosis. "I thought communication would be a little harder, but it turns out it has not been that difficult. I think the hardest thing is the playstyle. Sometimes I have a very clear vision of what needs to be done, and they have a different one. It's not that one is right and the other is wrong. It's more a matter of really getting on the same page. We're players from different countries." His stated goals were correspondingly modest: "I think the goal is to win a match [laughs]. That's the first goal." The plan was to return to the formula Monte had used — tier-two LANs across Europe, VRS points, a climb back toward Major qualification.
The first roster correction came before the end of August: Bymas benched on 24 August, Simon "yxngstxr" Boije signed from HEROIC a day later, and the team's September produced its first hardware — runner-up finishes at Radio Popular Roman Imperium Cup VIII, where M80 beat Luminosity in both of their series (2-1 and 0-2 in the deciding match), and at Logitech G Play Connect 2026, where group-stage wins over Metizport, M80 and Ninjas in Pyjamas carried the team to a final against 3DMAX that slipped away 2-3 on 24 September. Two second places in three weeks: not the trophy lux's CAC-winning autumn produced, but the first forward movement of the Luminosity project.
The attribute profile HLTV assigns lux is a portrait of a specific kind of captain. Firepower 37, Entrying 81, Trading 30, Opening 51, Clutching 21, Sniping 0, Utility 90. The Utility score is the headline: a 90 sits among the highest values in the game's data, and it describes a player whose value concentrates in the grenade phase — the setups, the denies, the structured side of round construction — rather than the duel phase. Entrying at 81 against Trading at 30 completes the picture: he positions himself to make contact first, to take space with the crosshair in the formulation he borrowed from biguzera, and he does not play the trailing-trade game that pure fraggers live on. Clutching at 21 and Sniping at 0 confirm the boundaries — he does not close many one-versus-X situations, and he has never carried the AWP, deferring instead to dedicated snipers (saadzin at Legacy) throughout his teams' constructions.
The form curve across the record is a series of snapshots rather than a line: 1.16 over 79 maps in November 2024 at paiN; 1.20 over 64 in April 2025 at Legacy; 1.11 over 74 at the Austin media day; a 0.97 dip across 68 maps in October 2025 after the CAC title; 1.05 over 8 maps in the first weeks at Luminosity; and a 1.01 rating over the most recent three months in the profile record. The aggregate prize money is $172,349, with four Major appearances on the sticker record — Copenhagen, Shanghai, Austin and Budapest — and no playoff berths among them.
What the record supports as a verdict is narrower than the trajectory suggests and more specific. lux is, at 24, the most decorated Brazilian IGL of the post-FalleN generation by tournament outcomes — one international trophy, two consecutive finals, two Stage 3 Major appearances as captain or playmaker — and simultaneously a player whose last Major ended in Stage 1 and whose new team began its life winless. He has been benched by two organisations in thirteen months, signed by a third within four, and asked to impose a playstyle on players from four countries inside a project whose owner reacquired the brand for a sixth of what he sold it for. The quote that closes his record's most recent chapter is also the one that best frames what comes next: "You have to lose to learn, and that's part of it; you have to keep a positive mindset."
