The donk file

donk — Danil Kryshkovets

A documentary biography of the Russian rifler who reached the top of the Counter-Strike world before his twentieth birthday, built from HLTV profile data, HLTV news records and published interviews.

1. Foundations

Danil Kryshkovets has played for two organisations on paper and one in practice. His record splits between Spirit Academy — a spell from August 2021 to January 2022, a second from May 2022 to July 2023 — and then, from July 2023 onward, continuous membership of the senior Team Spirit roster: 1,183 days of the 1,736 days he has been under contract to a club. He was 19 at the time of the profile record, which places his arrival in Counter-Strike in the CS:GO-to-CS2 transition, with the bulk of a career still ahead of him.

The game itself arrived earlier than the contract. According to HLTV's Top 20 profile of the player, an older brother introduced him to Counter-Strike 1.6 when he was five, and the household routine that followed was built around long sessions at the keyboard rather than around coaching or academy infrastructure. Nothing in the public record shows him passing through a youth system or an established European club's junior division; the formative years are domestic, self-directed and obsessive in volume. By his mid-teens the environment had shifted to FACEIT, where the ladder's public rating numbers became both his training ground and his scouting report.

The scale of that work is documented on his own profile page. Across 7,291 recorded matches he holds a 61.0% win rate, a 1.45 average KDR and a 60.0% headshot percentage, with a longest winning streak of 22, and his FPL placements run across both the CS:GO and CS2 eras of the European ladder. The volume is the more revealing number: in April 2025 HLTV recorded a fourth consecutive FACEIT season won with 5,334 Elo across 276 games in 96 days — roughly three matches a day alongside a full professional schedule. In March 2026 he dropped 95 kills in a single FACEIT match, and in July 2026 he set what was reported as a new CS2 Elo record on the platform. Public matchmaking has never been leisure for him; it has been an extension of the training block.

The route from that ladder into a contract ran through Spirit's academy. He first appears in the club's records in August 2021, leaves in January 2022 and returns in May 2022. The second spell produced results: Spirit Academy reached the WePlay Academy League playoffs in November 2022 and won CCT West Europe Series 1 in February 2023, upsetting GamerLegion in the final. The ceiling arrived in May 2023, when Apeks beat Spirit Academy in a tight match for the last ESL Pro League qualification place. That was the end of the road for a squad that had run out of lower leagues to win.

Recognition came partly from outside the club's own scouting: HLTV's Top 20 article credits the CIS analyst and scout Aleksei "OverDrive" Birukov with flagging him early. What is verifiable is the timing. On 5 July 2023 Spirit announced a new senior roster built around an academy trio that included Kryshkovets, alongside ArtFr0st and zont1x, two weeks after the club had benched Patsi, s1ren and w0nderful. He was 16 or 17 at the moment of that announcement — an age at which most of his generation were still in the academy he had left.

He has described the progression himself, in a line published during BetBoom Dacha in December 2023: "I played in tier five dumpster, then in tier three dumpster, and now I'm in tier one." The phrase is useful less for its self-deprecation than for its accuracy about the ladder he actually climbed. There was no transfer fee preceding him and no superteam absorbing him.

2. The transition to tier 1

The first months of the promoted roster were unremarkable by design. Replacing three established players with teenagers changed the squad's floor as much as its ceiling, and the autumn of 2023 read accordingly: a CCT North Europe Series 8 final lost to BIG in late October, a Roobet Cup campaign conducted with a playing coach that ended in a shock loss to 9z two days later, and then a Thunderpick World Championship appearance that produced an EVP mention — the award given to the best performers short of MVP, and the first individual honour of his senior career.

Structure around him came from two directions. Sergey "hally" Shavaev coached the team and was publicly candid about the construction job in progress; in December 2023 he described Kryshkovets as "a player with unique skills, he has that slow-motion mode," a formulation that named the quality opponents would spend the next two years trying to solve. Inside the server Dmitry "chopper" Kosholapov captained, and he framed his own role with matching plainness: "I'm more like a kindergarten worker [than a father figure]." The remark was not false modesty: three of the players in the new lineup had come straight from the academy Kryshkovets himself had just left.

The breakthrough came at BetBoom Dacha in Dubai in December 2023, as an individual performance inside a team result. Spirit moved past FURIA in a match HLTV's live desk headlined "FURIA get donked as Spirit head to semi-finals," then met Virtus.pro in an all-Russian final that Virtus.pro led two maps to nil. Spirit reverse-swept it. Kryshkovets took the event MVP, his first, and used the post-match interview to make a claim about the roster rather than himself: "This team can go very, very far."

Two adversities shaped the following months. The first was administrative: in January 2024 he and magixx were ruled out of BLAST Premier Spring Groups through visa issues, and the side that represented Spirit in those opening matches was described in reports as "visa-affected." The second was strategic. By May 2024 opponents had identified the tactical fact about the team, and MOUZ's in-game leader siuhy gave their version of it: "In a way, we like to play against teams with a superstar." The comment was not provocation but plan — funnel resources at the star, accept the trade elsewhere on the map, and test whether the supporting cast could win without him.

That test defined the first half of 2024. The roster answered it at IEM Katowice in February, and then spent the rest of the year being examined by teams who had rewritten their anti-strat documents around a single name.

3. The breakout season: 2024

IEM Katowice 2024 remains the cleanest statement of what the player became. Spirit swept FaZe Clan in the grand final, and Kryshkovets equalled the record rating for a big event while collecting the MVP medal. The performance did not arrive from nowhere: he had already been named MVP as Spirit won BetBoom Dacha in December, and days before the Katowice final he had dominated FaZe in the semi-finals. What changed in Poland was the size of the audience watching it happen.

His response was deflective. Asked in early February about comparisons with s1mple and ZywOo, he said, "I think I'm far behind." On the day of the Katowice final, asked about doubters, he said, "I try not to pay attention, but it fuels me to prove them wrong." Both answers came from the same stretch of interviews and both matched the pattern of his public speech: no superlatives about himself, a willingness to state a deficit plainly, and an admission that external doubt was functionally useful.

The rest of the year ran on two tracks. Rising: a quarter-final exit at PGL Major Copenhagen in March, which HLTV's match report called an "instant classic" against FaZe and which still brought him an EVP mention; a runner-up finish at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade in mid-May that still brought him the event MVP; BLAST Premier Spring Final in June, won with another MVP; and BetBoom Dacha Belgrade Season 2 at the end of August, his fourth MVP of the calendar year — plus, on 17 June 2024, Spirit rising to No. 1 in the world ranking for the first time in the organisation's history. At the Spring Final he declined to argue his own case for the year-end awards, saying instead: "I think m0NESY has the highest chance to become Player of the Year."

Falling: the BetBoom Dacha Belgrade final itself, where the defeat produced the comment that "It's hard to find positives after such a humbling defeat"; IEM Dallas later that month, where Spirit's campaign ended in the semi-finals against Vitality in the first meeting between Kryshkovets and ZywOo; and IEM Cologne in August, covered by HLTV as a "miserable" campaign ended by G2. His reading of Cologne was a scheduling instruction rather than an excuse: "To make up for [Cologne] we need to play on a decent level four or five more events." He then did so, winning BetBoom Dacha Belgrade Season 2 at the end of August.

One statistical episode from that autumn entered the record. On 4 September 2024, during the group stage of ESL Pro League Season 20 in Malta, he broke the CS2 regulation-mode kill record in a match against Wildcard; the mark stood for eight days before a player named poiii beat it.

The honours followed in the winter, alongside a runner-up finish at the BLAST Premier World Final in early November. He was named HLTV Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year for 2024 and took the Opener of the Year and Highlight of the Year panel awards. In the Top 20 countdown he was placed No. 1, the top-ranked player in the world in his first full professional year. Asked about the Player of the Year race in December, he answered with a criterion rather than a request: "It should be the one who shows stable results throughout the year; I failed at two events."

"It should be the one who shows stable results throughout the year; I failed at two events."

4. The Major campaigns

Five Valve Majors appear in the record: one title, two semi-finals, two quarter-finals.

Copenhagen 2024. Spirit qualified through the European RMR in February 2024, and Kryshkovets attended as a first-time Major participant. The run ended in the quarter-finals against FaZe Clan on 28 March, in what the report on it called an "instant classic," with an EVP mention attached: his first Major, at 17, and a top-eight finish.

Shanghai 2024. The second Major was the title run. Spirit dropped a group-stage match to Passion UA in late November, then beat their way through the bracket: the playoff place secured on 7 December, Liquid beaten in the quarter-finals on the 12th, MOUZ in the semi-finals on the 14th, and FaZe Clan 2-1 in the grand final on the 15th. He was named MVP, and HLTV's report on the medal stated two facts at once: he became the youngest Major MVP in the tournament's history and the highest-rated. He also broke the record for aces at a Major during the same event. Spirit had won the championship without a bootcamp — a detail he later used as a counter-argument when asked about the roster's problems: "How can we see a problem when we won a Major without a bootcamp?"

Austin 2025. As defending champions, Spirit arrived off a convincing group stage — a 2-0 win over NAVI on 13 June capped the run into the playoffs — and were eliminated in the quarter-finals by MOUZ on 19 June, with an EVP mention for Kryshkovets. On the morning of that quarter-final, a joint interview with s1mple and ZywOo about the best players in the world placed the three of them in the same conversation with real stakes attached.

Budapest 2025. This was the deepest of the non-winning runs and his strongest Major performance outside Shanghai: by the time Spirit secured their playoff place with a win over MOUZ on 5 December he was averaging a 1.73 rating across the tournament. The run to the semi-finals was headlined in HLTV's own reporting by team-mate zweih, who "powered up" to carry Spirit through the quarter-finals; the semi-final itself ended the campaign. In an interview on 3 December he had drawn the clearest line of his career about his own development: "I became more mature and now I'm thinking about winning the game as a team, not as a star player." He also argued that the Major's group-stage results had proved misleading once the bracket began — an argument his own deeper playoff run that December supported.

"I became more mature and now I'm thinking about winning the game as a team, not as a star player."

IEM Cologne 2026. The fifth Major was played without a coach. Hally missed the playoffs, and no other member of the coaching staff was available; Spirit progressed through Stage 2 and Stage 3 with a flawless record under the stand-in Jab "Jab Jabich" Jabich. He was explicit about the cost in difficult moments: "There is no one who can take a pause and say what happened, what went wrong and how we can come back," he told HLTV, citing Overpass against 9z — "We lost the comeback and we lost our minds, I would say." Spirit beat G2 in an "instant classic" to reach the semi-finals and then lost to Falcons, who advanced to the final: 3-4th, with an EVP mention.

Across the five Majors the aggregate is a title, two semi-finals, two quarter-finals, one MVP medal and four EVP mentions — a championship sitting inside a pattern of repeated deep runs rather than as an isolated peak.

5. Tactical profile and mechanical anatomy

HLTV's profile assigns the player seven attribute scores on a 0–100 scale, and the shape of those numbers is more informative than any single one of them: Firepower 100, Opening 97, Entrying 70, Trading 72, Clutching 55, Utility 32, Sniping 0. Read together they describe a specific kind of player — not a utility-support rifler, not a clutch specialist, not an AWPer, and not primarily a second-man trade fragger, but a first-contact duelist whose value is concentrated in the opening seconds of the round.

The gap between Opening (97) and Entrying (70) is the most informative pair on the page. A pure entry fragger — the player who walks into a site first and absorbs the initial defence — would show the reverse relationship. Here the opening-duel attempt rate is near the maximum while the formal entry assignment is markedly lower: a player who seeks first contact constantly but on his own terms, swinging in the mid-round or on a re-peek rather than as the designated first body through a doorway. Trading at 72 confirms it. He is not the player who avenges a fallen team-mate, and Spirit's spacing has worked in the other direction, with magixx and others absorbing first contact to leave the star the duel he wants.

The lower scores are equally diagnostic. Clutching at 55 is modest for a player of this rating, but his rounds rarely reach the state where clutch statistics are compiled: a player who wins opening duels at a 97-level frequency ends fewer one-versus-X situations than an anchor who survives to the site execute. Utility at 32 points to a playstyle that does not run on grenade protocols — no lineup-dependent smokes, no set molotov sequences. Sniping at 0 is literal: he does not use the AWP, a role that has belonged to Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov since December 2023.

The output figures corroborate the profile. The record snapshot at the time of writing gives a Rating 3.0 of 1.41 across 44 maps over three months; the sidebar on his profile during the Cologne Major read 1.54 over 50 maps with 0.95 kills per round and 0.68 deaths per round, and during the Esports World Cup it read 1.46 over 50 maps. Ratings in the mid-1.4s across fifty-map samples are not a hot streak. Single-event spikes have been sharper: 142 average damage per round as Spirit secured the playoffs at IEM Cologne in July 2025, a 2.05 rating on day two of BLAST London at the end of that August, and a 2.84-rated Dust2 decider in a 13-0 win over 100 Thieves in July 2026. The 60% headshot ratio across 7,291 FACEIT matches describes the mechanical base beneath it — a first-shot, first-kill orientation rather than a spray-transfer one.

Role and map-pool tendencies follow from the same logic. As an opener he sets the tempo of the early round, so the team's default on any map is a function of where he stands in the first fifteen seconds. Opponents who beat Spirit tend to do so by denying him the first duel entirely — utility, timing, refusing the peek — rather than by beating him in it. That is the anti-strat problem the sport has spent three years working on, and it is why the attribute cluster matters: a profile built this way scales with aggression and suffers when a team takes the initiative away from it.

6. Team dynamics and leadership

The roster around the star has changed more often than the trophy list suggests. When the academy trio arrived in July 2023 the senior side was built around chopper's captaincy and hally's coaching, with magixx and zont1x as the other core components; ArtFr0st, promoted alongside Kryshkovets, was made available for transfer in December 2023, the same month sh1ro was signed. That five produced the Shanghai Major and the first sustained spell at No. 1, and held for eighteen months before the churn below.

The subsequent churn was severe by the standards of a top-four team. In July 2025 Spirit benched magixx and signed zweih; in September 2025 tN1R arrived to replace zont1x; then on 18 December 2025, days after the Budapest semi-final, the club benched both chopper and zweih and restored magixx and zont1x to the active five, moving the captaincy with them. OverDrive — the same scout who had flagged Kryshkovets in the academy years — framed the transition as a long apprenticeship: "chopper needed two years to become a good captain, I think this is [how] it's going to work with magixx." For a player built on first-contact duels, a change of captain changes where those duels are offered; the rating survived it.

The coaching situation became the defining constraint of the 2026 season. Hally missed IEM Rio and PGL Astana in the spring and then the Cologne Major playoffs, and Spirit played that Major with no coaching presence at all. Kryshkovets described the consequence plainly: winning stretches required nothing, but "when you're losing some rounds that you don't have to lose, or you're throwing or something like that, it's becoming hard," and timeouts fell to the players — he took the first against Aurora, zont1x the second. Calling something difficult out of a timeout, he said, "is not our work, it's not our mission, I would say, and it's more about the coach." Asked in August 2026 about the coaching staff, he used the plainest terms available: "It's stupid to not rate hally as a great coach."

Emotionally the record shows a player who is neither theatrical nor insulated. He has spoken about frustration in mechanical terms — "I'm really frustrated when I play badly because it means my guys should do more than they have to," in January 2025 — locating his self-assessment in the scoreboard rather than in mood. On LAN he conducts post-match interviews with minimal affect and withholds preparation detail: asked at the Esports World Cup how Spirit had punished an opponent's over-peeking, he answered, "I don't know. Who knows? I don't want to reveal anything." Chopper said, "For me, donk is the best, and the best never give up"; hally spoke of a roster built to "let donk realize his potential"; and Vitality's flameZ, after a loss, gave the opponent's version: "Sometimes you have to respect individual brilliance; today donk took the show on Mirage."

7. The sustained era: 2025 and 2026

The year that followed the No. 1 ranking was defined by second place as much as first. Spirit finished runner-up to Vitality at IEM Katowice 2025 in a swept final, and were denied in the semi-finals at BLAST Rivals Season 1, BLAST Open Lisbon and ESL Pro League Season 21. The wins kept arriving: BLAST Bounty Season 1 Finals in January, with an MVP he argued should have gone to his team-mate — "I thought it would be more deserved for sh1ro to get the [Bounty] MVP"; PGL Astana in May, a 3-1 final against Astralis and a second MVP of the year; IEM Cologne in August, where the title brought rare relief — "It's such an amazing feeling. I feel relief right now, very strong relief" — and BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals later that month, his tenth career MVP. Through it he insisted he was improving: "I like the way I'm playing this year, and I feel like I'm getting better as a player."

The Major results did not improve: a quarter-final at Austin in June and a semi-final at Budapest in December, each carrying an EVP mention. At year's end he placed No. 2 in the HLTV Top 20 behind the Vitality core and took the Opener of the Year and Highlight of the Year panel awards for a second consecutive cycle.

The 2026 season opened in drought. Third at IEM Kraków in February and runner-up at IEM Rio in April — the first grand final since August 2025 — but no trophy arrived until PGL Astana on 17 May 2026, a nine-month gap ended by a final victory over Falcons and his first MVP of the calendar year. The Cologne Major then ended in a semi-final exit in June, played without a coach, and a second-place finish at the BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals in August preceded the run that changed the year.

At the Esports World Cup in Paris, Spirit recovered from a day-one loss to JiJieHao and then beat Luminosity, BIG, B8, Vitality, Legacy and FUT in sequence — including a win over Vitality that carried them into the semi-finals and ended a six-match losing streak against them — to take the final 3-1, with Kryshkovets named MVP. The club's Dota 2 side won The International the same day, and he learned of it only after his own final, phones having been confiscated beforehand: "Our manager said, 'Our Dota team won TI.'"

Two weeks later at BLAST Open Porto, Spirit beat DENDELE and G2 in the group stage, then FURIA and Falcons to reach the final, where they took MOUZ 3-1 — a second consecutive MVP across the two biggest tournaments of the summer. By the close of that stretch his three-month rating stood at 1.46 over 50 maps on one published snapshot and 1.41 over 44 on the profile record, with a new CS2 FACEIT Elo record set in late July. His own summary refused the closure a title normally invites. "The hardest part of being at the top is staying at the top," he said at Porto. A month earlier at the Esports World Cup he had put the same thought in the negative: "I think I came to this event in great shape, but still I see a lot of things that I can improve, and the things that we can work on as a team. This is not the point where I will stop, I would say."

"I think I came to this event in great shape, but still I see a lot of things that I can improve, and the things that we can work on as a team. This is not the point where I will stop, I would say."

8. Legacy, the statistical record and the horizon

The aggregate record at the time of this writing can be stated in a paragraph. Career prize money of $1,067,716. Twelve tournament victories from 37 LAN appearances, thirteen MVP medals spanning BetBoom Dacha 2023 to BLAST Open Porto 2026 — among them the Perfect World Shanghai Major — and fifteen EVP mentions from Thunderpick World Championship 2023 to the Cologne Major in June 2026. One Valve Major title and one Major MVP, both won at Shanghai in December 2024. Two Top 20 finishes: No. 1 for 2024, No. 2 for 2025. Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year for 2024, Opener of the Year in 2024 and 2025, Highlight of the Year in both cycles. His team reached No. 1 in the world ranking and held it for 23 weeks.

The comparative framing the record supports is age-based rather than pantheon-based. He won Player of the Year in his first full professional season, at an age when most players in the historical record were still in academy or tier-2 lineups, and followed it with a No. 2 finish rather than a collapse — the pattern that separates sustained careers from single-year anomalies. His MVP haul distributes across three calendar years (five in 2024 including the Major, four in 2025, three in 2026 through September), so no single tournament carries it, and his 2026 rating snapshots sit between 1.41 and 1.54 over samples of 44 to 50 maps.

What the record does not yet contain is a second Major, and the gap between Shanghai and the present — five Majors played, one won, two semi-final exits in the last twelve months — is the outstanding item on the résumé. It is also the item most affected by circumstance: the Cologne 2026 semi-final was contested without a coaching staff. Whether it becomes a second title or a career defined by one is not answerable from the data available.

On ambition he has been consistent. Asked about his ceiling as a teenager he said he was "far behind" the established greats, and at the Esports World Cup in August 2026 he still declined to describe himself as finished: "This is not the point where I will stop, I would say." The statement that best captures the decade ahead came at BLAST Open Porto in September 2026: "The hardest part of being at the top is staying at the top." He was 19 when he said it, with the bulk of a professional career still ahead of him.
