[05] — The dossier · long-form
A documentary biography of the Russian AWPer who carried G2's attack for three seasons and completed his career with a Major MVP at Falcons, built from HLTV profile data, HLTV news records and published interviews.
Ilya Osipov's career begins earlier than almost any biography in this set, because his talent was visible earlier. Born in Russia and handling the AWP from his early teens, he passed through Newballs and SGPro in 2019, both brief stops, before joining NAVI Junior, the development roster of Natus Vincere. The NAVI Junior spell is the foundation of his professional identity. Under junior-team structures he learned the positional discipline of top-level AWPing: the angles, the rotations, the economy of a weapon that punishes every mistake. By 2021, still sixteen, he was the most coveted teenage AWPer in the world, and the contest for his signature was won by G2, who signed him in January 2022.
The context of that signing explains its significance. G2 were a championship organization without a long-term AWP solution, and they entrusted the most important weapon on the team to a sixteen-year-old. It was the largest developmental gamble any elite team had taken in years, comparable only to Spirit's later promotion of donk. Osipov rewarded it immediately. In his first calendar year he helped G2 reach the IEM Katowice final, finish third at the Spring Final and the Pro League, and close the season by winning the BLAST Premier World Final 2022, earning the MVP medal. He was named to the HLTV Top 20 at No. 7, won Rookie of the Year and Highlight of the Year, and established himself as the future of the position before he could legally celebrate some of his wins in every jurisdiction.
His game, even then, showed the complete shape. Aggressive with the AWP in ways that recalled prime s1mple, disciplined with the rifle when the economy demanded it, and emotionally expressive in a manner that made him one of the scene's most visible personalities. The nickname "The Flash" captured the speed of his play, the quick peeks, the faster reactions, the sense that rounds accelerated when he held the scope. His FACEIT-era habits, the thousands of matchmaking hours behind the junior career, had built a duelist's confidence that no academy drill could manufacture. What the junior years had built was not just mechanics but mentality: he arrived in tier one expecting to decide matches, and he did. The 2022#7 ranking, the highest debut-season placement of any AWPer in the modern era, was the formal confirmation.
The 2023 season confirmed Osipov as the best AWPer in the world. G2 won IEM Katowice 2023 in February and IEM Cologne 2023 in August, the two most prestigious non-Major titles of the year, with Osipov central to both runs. The Katowice victory, in particular, announced the roster's championship credentials: a playoff run through the game's elite, closed out in the Spodek, with the teenage AWPer performing as the team's most reliable playoff weapon. The autumn added a third-place at Sydney and a semi-final at the Gamers8 event in Riyadh, results that kept G2 permanently in contention without quite converting. He finished the year at No. 4 in the HLTV Top 20, and though the Majors disappointed, Legends finishes at both Paris and the previous Antwerp event, the direction was unmistakable. The Paris Major, the last of CS:GO, ended in the Legends stage; the Antwerp Major the year before had done the same. Two Majors, two Legends exits: respectable, and for a player of his ambition, insufficient.
The 2024 season was his finest statistical year and his most frustrating competitive one. He finished No. 2 in the world, behind only donk, won the AWPer of the Year panel award, and collected three MVP medals: IEM Dallas, the BLAST Premier Fall Final and the BLAST Premier World Final. The Dallas victory in May, secured with dominant AWPing through the playoffs, remains one of the great individual carries of the CS2 era. The autumn double, Fall Final and World Final back to back to close the year, suggested a player peaking at exactly the right moment. Between those peaks came the year's strangest weekend: a runner-up finish at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, where G2 reached the final but could not close, adding another silver medal to a season defined equally by individual brilliance and collective near-misses. donk himself, asked about the Player of the Year race that June, had named Osipov as the favorite: "I think m0NESY has the highest chance to become Player of the Year." The award went elsewhere, decided, as donk himself later framed these races, by stability across the full year. Osipov's two failed events, by his own lofty standards, were the difference.
"I think m0NESY has the highest chance to become Player of the Year."
But the Majors again refused him. Third-to-fourth at Copenhagen in March, third-to-fourth at Shanghai in December, both semi-final exits, both carrying EVP mentions. The Copenhagen run included an EVP for consistent excellence across the event; the Shanghai run ended against the eventual champions. Four Major semi-final or better finishes without a final appearance began to define him statistically: the best player never to play for the game's biggest trophy. His 2025 started in the same register. A second place at PGL Bucharest with G2, his last final for the organization, preceded the move that would change everything.
Osipov joined Falcons in April 2025, four months after NiKo's own arrival, reuniting the G2 core inside the Saudi organization's superteam project. The move was among the most expensive in history and carried the explicit goal of winning the trophies that G2 could not. What followed was the most psychologically demanding stretch of his career. Across fifteen months with Falcons before the Cologne Major, he appeared in eight grand finals and lost all eight. Runner-up at Melbourne, at Rivals Season 1, at Dallas, at EPL Season 22, at Chengdu, at the Bounty Season 1 Finals, at Rivals Season 2, at Cluj-Napoca: a catalogue of near-misses unprecedented for a player of his standing.
The statistics of the drought were paradoxical. He won MVP medals at EPL Season 22 and Rivals Season 2, both in defeat, the losing-MVP phenomenon that marks players whose teams cannot convert their output. The EPL medal, earned across a playoff run that carried Falcons to their first grand final with kyousuke in the lineup, and the Rivals medal, earned in yet another final loss to FURIA, were simultaneously honors and indictments. He collected EVP mentions at seemingly every event: Melbourne, Bucharest, Rivals, Dallas, EPL, Rio, Rotterdam, Astana, the Asia Championships, Porto, the World Cup. His three-month rating through this period sat at 1.40, the highest in this biography set by a distance, with performances that would have won tournaments attached to slightly better teams. Interviewers began handing him medals for losing finals, and his expression in those moments, documented across two HLTV interviews, told the story of a player enduring rather than enjoying his prime.
The team's structural problem was the three-star economy shared with NiKo and kyousuke, and Osipov's share of the sacrifice was real. kyxsan, the caller through most of this period, emphasized that the staff had "made sure m0NESY understood that he still has freedom," and TeSeS predicted he would find "a new, higher ceiling when he finds himself again." The patience of the organization was notable. Lesser projects would have broken up a core that lost eight consecutive finals. Falcons, bankrolled for exactly this kind of long game, held firm, added kyousuke in the summer of 2025, and then, in April 2026, made themove that unlocked everything: replacing kyxsan with karrigan.
Osipov's account of the karrigan effect, given minutes after winning the Major, is the essential text of his Falcons career. "The things we are doing, all the rotations, the chaos we are building on the server, this is me, this is who I am," he said, still wearing the MVP medal. "Obviously, there is some magic in karrigan." The analysis inside the celebration is precise. karrigan's systems, with their constant rotations, their controlled chaos, their liberation of stars from rigid structure, matched Osipov's instincts exactly. Where the previous regime had managed three stars through allocation, the Dane managed them through movement, and the AWPer who thrives on unpredictability was freed.
The spring of 2026 showed the liberation in results. Second at Astana, second in Shanghai, each with EVP mentions for Osipov, each a final reached through playoff AWPing of the highest order. At Astana he combined with kyousuke to come back against The MongolZ, a series in which the two young stars traded multi-kill rounds to drag Falcons over the line; in Shanghai he anchored the semi-final win over MOUZ that secured the second consecutive grand final. The IEM Rio campaign in April added a third-place finish, with Falcons ending Vitality's long match win streak in the group stage before falling to Spirit in the semis, another EVP for the collection. The eight-final losing streak still hung over him, eight became the number attached to his name in every preview, but the performances inside the defeats were consistently elite. As the Major approached, the question was not whether he would perform but whether anyone would remember anything except the streak.
His personal circumstances added emotional weight. His brother and his brother's wife attended the Cologne playoffs, sitting in front of the stage, and Osipov credited their presence directly. "As soon as I walked out on the stage, I felt like everyone was very calm," he said. "If I'm talking about myself, I was very calm; I felt like I'm in Nirvana, like this mood where you don't care. You just focus on each round. I felt all the energy in the arena, and I felt like I took it with me into the game." Calm, for a player whose career had been defined by visible emotion, was the final piece.
The IEM Cologne Major 2026 ended every drought at once. Falcons survived Stage 3, beat NAVI to reach the LANXESS, defeated Vitality in the quarters and Spirit in the semis, and swept FURIA 3-0 in the final. Osipov was named tournament MVP, his seventh career medal and his first in a victory in nearly eighteen months. The numbers behind the medal were decisive: a 1.25 overall rating, 1.10 kills per round win, and seven map awards, level with NiKo and kyousuke but distinguished by superior aggregate output. The final itself showcased his range: a 1.80 rating with a +10.13 percent round swing across Mirage and Anubis to put Falcons on the brink, then a quieter Inferno as his teammates closed it out. MVPs who dominate the opening maps and trust their team to finish are MVPs who understand championships.
The historical notes attached to the medal are significant. It was his first Major final appearance and his first Major title, ending the streak of semi-final ceilings that stretched back to 2022. It was his first winning MVP in eighteen months, ending the losing-medal sequence. It was his seventh career medal, all at Big Events, moving him ahead of coldzera and level with Snax in the all-time Big Event standings. And it was won against the world numbers one, two, three and five in sequence, through the hardest playoff run ever recorded.
His emotions afterward centered, characteristically, on others. "I'm so happy for NiKo, first of all," he said, voice breaking. "I am twice as happy for him as I am for myself. Obviously, I'm happy for everyone, but I just kept imagining in my head that NiKo has been going so long for this dream." The tears in the interview, the disbelief, "I cannot believe it happened, we somehow won the Major," were the release of fifteen months and eight finals. The Flash had finally won the tournament that mattered, and his first thought was for the teammate who had waited longer.
"I am twice as happy for him as I am for myself. Obviously, I'm happy for everyone, but I just kept imagining in my head that NiKo has been going so long for this dream."
Osipov's attributes describe the most complete AWPer of his generation. Firepower 97 is the highest combat score in this biography set: in pure duel-winning, nobody exceeds him. Sniping 94 confirms the weapon specialization; he is an AWPer first, last and always, though his rifle is elite by any standard. Opening 86 reflects the aggression with which he takes first looks, peeking angles that passive AWPers concede. Clutching 69 is outstanding for a primary AWPer, a role that rarely survives into late rounds, and it marks him as one of the few snipers reliable in one-versus-X states. Utility 63 is strong for the position, Entrying 51 and Trading 45 the honest limitations of a player whose weapon removes him from the pack.
The 1.40 three-month rating is the statistical headline of his career. Ratings at that level across extended samples are the territory of all-time seasons, and Osipov has sustained his through role changes, caller changes and the pressure of the finals streak. His headshot and ADR figures through the Majors, the 1.80 final start, the +10 round swings, are the outputs of a player whose bad games are average and whose good games decide tournaments.
The stylistic comparison that follows him is with s1mple, the previous generation's defining AWPer, and donk, the current generation's defining rifler. Against the former he offers greater team integration; against the latter, the positional value of the AWP. What distinguishes him from both is emotional transparency. His joy and despair are public, his interviews unguarded, his celebrations unrestrained. The Nirvana of Cologne, calm amid chaos, suggests the final maturation: a player who has learned to channel the feeling rather than be consumed by it.
The post-Major season has been a study in championship aftermath. Falcons lost to 100 Thieves in Bounty, fell 0-2 to Legacy in Paris to exit the World Cup fifth-to-eighth, and recovered to third-to-fourth in Porto with a semi-final loss to Spirit. The Paris exit carried a particular sting beyond the scoreline: Legacy had already beaten Falcons' group-stage expectations into the ground with wins over NAVI and FURIA, and their 2-0 demolition in the playoffs was the tournament's great ambush. Osipov collected EVP mentions at the World Cup, the Asia Championships, Astana, Rio and Porto, maintaining the individual standard while the team's results oscillated. The Legacy defeat in Paris stung most: a 0-2 exit, NiKo's admission that he could not remember a worse destruction, and the revival of questions about the roster's mentality.
The larger significance of the autumn is baseline-setting. Before Cologne, Osipov's career was defined by the gap between his output and his trophies. After Cologne, every subsequent result is measured against a championship standard, and the standard is unforgiving. EVP mentions that once read as consolations now read as expectations. His output has not wavered; the 1.40 rating persists, the EVPs accumulate. What the winter will determine is whether the Major unlocked a serial-winning phase or stands as the singular peak of a brilliant career.
The personal milestones continue regardless. ESL's player profile feature ahead of the Major's Stage 3, the HLTV Confirmed retrospectives, the awards-frontrunner discussions: Osipov is now a central figure in every season narrative, the player whose form determines his team's ceiling. At twenty-one, with four Top 20 finishes and a Major MVP, he has already compiled a career that would satisfy most professionals. The question, as always with the truly elite, is how much more.
The aggregate record at the time of writing places Osipov among the greatest AWPers ever to play. Prize money of $1,026,958. Seven Big Event titles: World Final 2022, Katowice 2023, Cologne 2023, Dallas 2024, Fall Final 2024, World Final 2024, Cologne Major 2026. Seven MVP medals, all at Big Events, including a Major MVP. Four consecutive Top 20 finishes: No. 7 in 2022 with Rookie and Highlight of the Year, No. 4 in 2023, No. 2 in 2024 with AWPer of the Year, No. 4 in 2025. Seven Major appearances with one title, two semi-final pairs, and an MVP. Twenty-plus EVP mentions spanning four seasons.
The comparative framing is straightforward. At twenty-one he has matched the career MVP count of players a decade older, won titles in three different roster constructions, and completed the full arc from teenage prodigy to Major champion. The eight-final losing streak, now ended, will be remembered as the making of him rather than the breaking: fifteen months of sustained elite output under maximum pressure, followed by a championship won through the hardest run in history. Few careers illustrate the relationship between suffering and winning as clearly.
What comes next is the pursuit of the game's highest honors: Player of the Year, which eluded him in 2024; a second Major, which would place him among the very few AWPers with multiple championships; and the sustained dominance that separates the great from the historic. His own summary, given with the MVP medal around his neck, was about others: twice as happy for NiKo as for himself. The generosity is genuine, and it coexists with the ruthlessness of his play. The Flash plays for his team and wins for himself. At twenty-one, the balance has never looked better.
