[05] — The dossier · long-form
A documentary biography of the Russian rifler who replaced donk on Spirit's academy bench, won two FPL seasons in one February, and now supplies BETBOOM's aggression from the second position, built from HLTV profile data, HLTV news records and tournament reports.
Kirill Rodnov plays under the name Magnojez. He was 21 at the time of the profile record, Russian, and listed as a member of BETBOOM, with career prize money of $144,036 and a three-month Rating 3.0 of 1.23 — the highest current-form figure in his cohort. The team history is short by the standards of the tier-two generation: websterz from March to September 2022, K23 into the summer of 2023, Spirit Academy from June 2023 to March 2024, and BETBOOM since. Four organisations in four years, each one a correction of the last.
The K23 chapter is the one he has analysed in public, and the analysis is the most useful document of his early career. He joined the Kazakh organisation's project in January 2023 — the longest-serving member of the trio HLTV's removal report would later name — and by June 2023 the organisation had removed him, RAiLWAY and El1an from the active roster after the team dropped out of the world's top 100. His own verdict, given to HLTV a year later, declined to blame the environment: "After K23, I had a tough period because I had poor results. I think it was because I went to the next level too early, I didn't have some basics and therefore played badly. We also switched positions all the time, but it doesn't really matter." The numbers of the spell — a 1.03 rating across the roster's grind — were, the report noted, "among the better performers" on the team, and they were not enough at 18.
The removal notice itself carried the era's texture: RAiLWAY becoming a free agent, El1an's surprise departure after a 1.00 rating across 41 maps, and the organisation's transfer-list framing of two of the three. For Rodnov, the bench arrived with a specific psychological cost that he named in the same later interview: "I play bad, I play bad" — the loop he described being stuck in before the intervention that changed his trajectory. The K23 record is therefore the negative space of the career: the level jump that failed, the positions that kept changing, and the mentality problem that a coach on another team's payroll would spend the next six months solving.
The move to Spirit Academy in June 2023 placed Rodnov in the most productive development system in the CIS region at the exact moment its star graduate had left it. His role was explicit: he was signed as the replacement for Danil "donk" Kryshkovets, the teenage phenom whose promotion to Team Spirit's main roster had vacated the academy's firepower position. The statistical record of the spell — 1.36 across 38 maps in the final months of 2023, per HLTV's later summary — documented a player filling production levels that the system had been built around, and it did so well enough that Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov named him his Bold Prediction for 2024 in HLTV's January feature.
The mentoring record is the chapter's real content. Magnojez credited academy coach Dmitry "S0tF1k" Forostyanko with rebuilding both his game and his head: "After I got benched in K23, I got invited to Spirit Academy and talked to S0tF1k. He said he saw big potential in me. It was a huge morale boost because I had some issues with my mentality: 'I play bad, I play bad.'" The technical philosophy S0tF1k installed became the interview's most quoted passage: "Dima [S0tF1k] helped me to return to feeling normal and gave me some basics because he's an academy coach. He can help teach how to play — without creativity because it isn't needed when you're in an academy. And then you reach the next level with full knowledge of how to play the right game. After that, you become an artist and introduce creativity." HLTV's framing of the interview — "Magnojez is becoming more of an 'artist' on BetBoom" — turned the quote into the player's public self-description, and the attribute page that would follow (Firepower 91, Opening 86, Utility 78) reads as the artist's toolkit measured two years on.
The academy semester ended in March 2024, and its market value was immediate: offers from CIS and Europe, trials completed, and a final shortlist of two. His own account of the decision was blunter than most transfer sagas: "I had two priority options: BetBoom and one other team. I received several invites, went for trials everywhere, and I wasn't really choosing [from any of those]. Then I got an invite from BetBoom. We played together for two days, after that I was offered a contract, and I agreed. The decision was made quite fast."
The FACEIT record beneath the professional career deserves its own accounting, because it is the strongest mechanical evidence in the file. Rodnov's profile shows 9,456 matches — the largest public matchmaking volume of any player in his cohort — at a 59.0% win rate, a 1.22 average KDR, a 52.0% headshot percentage and a longest winning streak of 21. The trophy section records the summit: winner of FPL CS2 Season 5 in February 2024 and winner of FPL CS2 Season 6 in the same month, back-to-back titles in the European elite pool, achieved with a 1677-point, 24-6 record in Season 5 and a 1660-point, 22-6 record in Season 6 — win rates of 80% and 79% across the two seasons, against fields containing the best players on the continent.
The deeper history on the Challenger ladder is equally instructive. In FPL CS:GO Challenger Europe Season 63, Rodnov won the division outright with 2,267 points across 141 matches at a 64% win rate — a full season of grinding against the players one tier below the elite pool, executed at a volume (141 matches in a season) that documents the work ethic beneath the academy redevelopment. The ladder trajectory — Challenger champion, then two consecutive FPL CS2 titles — is the statistical version of the S0tF1k rehabilitation: a player whose mechanics were always at the elite threshold, rebuilt mentally into someone who could sustain them across a season rather than a highlight reel.
The timing of the two FPL trophies is the detail that connects this chapter to the next. February 2024 — the month of both titles — was also the month BETBOOM's failings at the Copenhagen RMR were being processed and the roster decision that would change his career was being prepared. The academy graduate entered the spring market as the freshest double-champion in European matchmaking, with a professional sample of 38 academy maps and the profile numbers to suggest the sample undersold him.
BETBOOM announced the signing on 21 March 2024: Magnojez in, Danil "danistzz" Roslyakov benched after averaging 0.91 in the team's failed Europe RMR and IEM Katowice campaigns. HLTV's report framed the move as the second change after the Copenhagen failure — coach Viacheslav "innersh1ne" Britvin had been benched the previous month — and noted the new signing was "formally added to the team just ahead of the start of BETBOOM's campaign in the Skyesports Masters Europe closed qualifier," where the Russians faced B8 in the quarter-finals. The call-up handed a 19-year-old academy graduate the firepower position of a roster one tier below the Major it had just missed.
The 2024 season's tier-two record, reconstructed from the news sequence, fills in the texture between the highlights. BETBOOM edged past M80 to reach the ESL Pro League Season 19 playoffs in April, banished Falcons to the Last Chance Stage at the same event, accepted an invitation to the Skyesports Masters as Liquid's replacement — and later withdrew from the Skyesports Championship itself over conditions and fairness concerns, a dispute that cost the roster a summer event. FlyQuest eliminated them from EPL, AMKAL won the inaugural CCT Season 2 EU Series final that BETBOOM reached, and Falcons claimed revenge to eliminate them from the following CCT bracket. The pattern of the debut year was therefore precise: the new signing's numbers lifted the roster into every conversation, and the roster's collective inexperience at tier two ended every one of those conversations one round early.
The early returns validated the decision at a rate that made it a template signing. By June 2024, HLTV's assessment noted he had "lived up to expectations by averaging a 1.18 rating over 111 maps" — a figure above every established member of the roster — and at YaLLa Compass Spring in Abu Dhabi he was "the consistent force behind wins over BIG, Eternal Fire, and fnatic that helped put his team through to playoffs," with the caveat that his statistics dropped off on LAN and as opponent quality rose. The same coverage documented his own account of the FURIA group-stage loss — "Just BO1, MR12, you lose a couple of rounds, it's 1-5, and you start to feel uncomfortable. It snowballs, and it's 1-13 in the end" — and the Eternal Fire comeback that followed: "We had a plan, kept to it, and didn't lose to ourselves."
The season's independent validation arrived from two directions. HLTV's July rookies feature described him as "the highly-rated Spirit Academy graduate" who "has elevated BETBOOM's level single-handedly," recording nafany's praise of his impact. And the grand final of CCT Season 2 Europe Series 2 in May — lost 2-1 to B8, the Ukrainian project whose rise this series of biographies tracks — put him on the losing side of the tier-two spring's biggest match while the individual numbers held. The 2024 season ended without a tier-one breakthrough, but with the profile established: the highest-rated player on a roster that could not convert, carrying the market's attention into the November reshuffle.
The 2024-2025 transition reshaped everything around him without touching his position. BETBOOM benched nafany and KaiR0N- on 26 November 2024 after the Shanghai RMR failure — the roster having eliminated Nemiga from the qualifier before falling short — and in January 2025 signed Sergey "Ax1Le" Rykhtorov and Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov from the collapsing Cloud9 project. The two arrivals changed the team's ceiling and its hierarchy: a Major-winning captain and a top-five rifler from 2022 installed above the academy graduate who had spent 2024 as the roster's statistical leader.
The early 2025 results flashed the new ceiling and the old problem in the same month. BETBOOM beat MOUZ on 18 January in the new-look five's debut and qualified for the BLAST Bounty Season 1 Finals over FURIA — with Mikhailov and zorte missing the finals themselves to visa issues — and then spent the spring failing to convert the promise, with HLTV's May coverage summarising: "Bar a sprinkling of top-four runs in online competition, BETBOOM have largely struggled to deliver on the apparent quality of their squad, most notably failing to qualify for any significant LAN events." The one exception was the decisive one: the Europe MRQ run that took down SAW, fnatic and 9 Pandas to book the BLAST.tv Austin Major berth. At the Major itself, BETBOOM's Stage 1 survival came through back-to-back overtime wins over Wildcard — the series Mikhailov called "a crazy win" and the team's first LAN together — before MIBR ended the tournament in Stage 2 on 9 June. Rodnov's first Valve Major therefore carried the same lesson as the B8 cohort's debuts: the Swiss stages forgive mistakes, the advancement rounds do not.
Rodnov's interview on the eve of that Major, published on 29 May 2025, gave the season its title and its verdict in one sentence: "We have grown significantly despite the mediocre results." The individual ledger across the season's first half held at the level the academy had promised and the 2024 data had confirmed: the roster's aggression flowed through his positions whether the results followed or not, and the 1.18-over-111-maps figure of his debut stretch had become the baseline the rebuilt five was constructed around.
The July 2025 reshuffle completed the roster around him. ArtFr0st arrived permanently after his stand-in spell at FISSURE Playground 1 — where BETBOOM reached the semi-finals and lost to Astralis en route to the Serbians' second consecutive grand final — and d1Ledez signed from the 9 Pandas bench as Ax1Le was benched. HLTV's report of the double signing placed Rodnov's name in the continuation five without comment, which was itself the point: through two rebuilds, one coaching change and the arrival of a Major winner, the academy graduate had become the roster's structural constant.
The roles redistributed with the new pieces. Mikhailov's public assessment of the new arrival — "He's a simple guy who listens and follows. He shoots heads" — doubled as a description of the system Rodnov operated in: the captain's T-side structure generating space, the entry pack converting it, and Rodnov's positions absorbing the mid-round aggression his 91 firepower and 86 opening scores are built to deliver. The August Exort Proving Grounds title over BC.Game was the first trophy of the completed five, and the autumn's online sequence banked the VRS arithmetic that would seed the Cologne Major.
The results that fell short in the period fell short narrowly. PGL Masters Bucharest in October ended at the hands of Gentle Mates in a three-map thriller decided on the final round of regulation; the Moscow LAN debut at Majestic LanDaLan opened with a win and ended short of the title; and the pattern of the autumn — competitive margins against playoff-calibre rosters, no conversions — carried into the 2026 season's first months. Rodnov's three-month rating through the period never left the 1.15-1.25 band that the year-end data would confirm, a stability the roster around him never matched.
The IEM Cologne Major in June 2026 was the event where the individual file and the team record finally aligned. BETBOOM's run — Stage 1 opened with a crushing of GamerLegion, Stage 2 produced the tournament's biggest scalp to that point in The MongolZ, and Stage 3 assembled the sequence that carried the roster into the playoffs — had one match HLTV's coverage credited to him by name. The Stage 3 advancement match against Monte, with the roster's tournament life at stake, went 2-1: Nuke won 13-7 after a 2-6 comeback, with Rodnov posting a 1.82 map rating and FL4MUS 1.69 alongside; Mirage conceded on Monte's pick; and the Dust2 decider closed 13-8 behind 25 kills from the Russian rifler at a 1.47. The headline assigned the authorship: "Magnojez leads BetBoom to Stage 3 over Monte," with the report noting he finished the series 0.24 rating ahead of his closest team-mate.
The playoff berth that followed — sealed with the Falcons comeback on Nuke, the Vitality loss, and the FUT win that locked the 3-1 record — made Rodnov a Major quarter-finalist at the second attempt, one year after Austin's Stage 2 exit. The quarter-final itself was lost 2-0 to Aurora, whose Nuke pressure and Wicadia's Deagle rounds ended the run; the tournament's individual honours went elsewhere. But the run's structural meaning for his file was the same one the B8 cohort's Stage 3 runs carry: the roster had converted a qualification campaign into a bracket, and the player whose ratings had carried the qualification was present at the conversion.
The visa context deserves its line in the record, because it shaped the Major's competitive texture. BETBOOM played the event with FL4MUS and zorte in and out of the lineup and S1ren missing the start, a situation the captain described as "the most unexpected season of my career." Rodnov's 1.82-rated advancement match and 1.47-rated decider were therefore produced inside a rotation — his consistency the one fixed point while the roster's edges changed weekly. The EVP list published for the event did not carry his name; the advancement match's margin, 0.24 ahead of any team-mate across the series, was the case that came closest.
The attribute scores of Rodnov's profile are the most polarised in this cohort, and they describe a role the modern game produces rarely: the space-taker who does not trade. Firepower 91 leads the BETBOOM set; Opening 86 marks him as a designated first-contact duelist in the open round, not just the execute; Entrying 84 adds the doorway work to the open-field aggression; Utility 78 — the highest utility score in his cohort — records the grenade discipline that makes an aggressive position survivable. Against the summit, Trading 12 sits at the bottom of any comparison by a distance: the statistical signature of a player who takes the first contact and rarely lives behind it, the opposite pole of d1Ledez's 85/87 converter profile beside him. Clutching 53 and Sniping 6 complete the all-rifle picture.
The summer of 2026 supplied the profile's first individual honour. At XSE Pro League Guangzhou, BETBOOM went 3-0 through a group containing Nemesis, BIG and SINNERS — Rodnov at a 1.55 across the stage — and fell to FaZe in the quarter-finals; the event's EVP review awarded him his debut medal with the numbers stated plainly: "Magnojez earns his debut EVP with a barnstorming 1.44 rating and 1.25 KPRW. Those are Danil 'donk' Kryshkovets-level numbers from the Spirit star's buddy." The review noted the poor Cache against FaZe in the arena and the 1.52 on Ancient that recovered the case, and the comparison it chose — the academy star whose chair he had occupied — closed the circle the career had opened two years earlier.
"Magnojez earns his debut EVP with a barnstorming 1.44 rating and 1.25 KPRW. Those are Danil 'donk' Kryshkovets-level numbers from the Spirit star's buddy."
The operational notes of the summer belong in the file. On 1 July 2026, HLTV's short news reported that Rodnov's Steam account had been hacked ahead of XPL, an episode with no recorded competitive consequence but one that documents the profile value a debut EVP and a Major quarter-final create for a 21-year-old. The September record added the season's strongest team result without individual reward: at FISSURE Playground 3, BETBOOM topped their group with 2-0 wins over BIG, Astralis and MIBR, and pushed G2 to three maps in the semi-final — Mirage won 13-7 with Rodnov's 1v3 clutch as the margin, Anubis and Ancient lost by a combined six rounds — with the EVP review's verdict mirroring d1Ledez's: well enough to top a group, short of the nod in the semi-final.
The aggregate record at the time of writing: $144,036 in career prize money, one debut EVP, two FPL titles, one Major quarter-final, no trophies at the tier-one level, no Top 20 placements, and a three-month rating of 1.23 that leads his cohort. He is 21, three and a half years past the K23 benching he diagnosed as premature, two and a half past the S0tF1k interview that turned the diagnosis into a method, and the trajectory since has been monotonic: academy replacement to academy star, star to market's fastest riser, riser to the roster constant through two rebuilds, and constant to the player whose name HLTV put in a headline the first time a Major advancement was on the line. The remaining gap — the one the EVP reviews keep writing in the same sentence — is the semi-final conversion, and the 2027 calendar will supply the attempts.
The comparison set he now sits inside gives the trajectory its honest frame. In the B8 cohort, kensizor's 73 firepower and npl's 85 describe rifle stars whose ceilings have been tested at three Majors; in his own roster, d1Ledez's 85/87 converter profile completes a two-man aggression engine that the Cologne and FISSURE records show working at tier-one thresholds. Rodnov's 91/86/12 is the extreme of the family, and the sport's recent history — the academy classmate whose chair he filled being the reference case — suggests such profiles either mature into consistent EVP collection or collapse into highlight volatility. The evidence of 2026 points at the first: the ratings have held across a visa-disrupted season, the EVP arrived in the arena event that mattered, and the FISSURE semi-final fell two maps short of a second. The K23 report that ended this biography's first chapter described an 18-year-old who was "among the better performers" and not enough; the XSE report of July 2026 described a 21-year-old putting up numbers "beyond doubt." The distance between those two sentences is the career, and it has been crossed without a single wasted transfer.
